What Is Operation Christmas Love?
As one of Mission Without Borders' largest outreach programs, Operation Christmas Love is our way to reach further into the communities we work in and show the love of Christ to as many people as we can during the Christmas Season.
Operation Christmas Love is designed so both individuals and groups can participate to provide not only material gifts to to those in need, but also hope for the future and the confirmation they are valued, and there is someone out there that cares about them.
What's the difference between Mission Without Borders Operation Christmas Love boxes and others?
Mission Without Borders sources the contents of every box locally in the country it will be distributed. This is important because it ensures families receive items that they are familiar with and cook with regularly. Operation Christmas Love boxes are also packed and delivered by local staff and volunteers in the countries we serve. Not only does this help develop stronger relationships with the families we work with, it allows us to save expensive international shipping costs and ensure your donation has the largest impact possible.
Not only does each Operation Christmas Love Box come packed with material supplies, it also opens the door for our coordinators to developing relationships with families and invite them to explore their local church community.
Poverty in Eastern Europe is real
Europe isn't usually the first place that comes to mind when thinking in about those in need. Often we think of Europe as a vacation destination and a place of abundance. However, poverty is real in Eastern Europe. Countries still struggling with the past oppression of communism have some of the largest wealth gaps between the haves and have-nots.
So many families we serve in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine are struggling in deep poverty. At Christmas time we want those in need to experience the love and generosity of Christ by supplying families with essential food supplies, Christmas treats, and Christmas stories that present the hope gospel along with resources and an invitation to connect them to their community church.
We want the Christmas season to be a time when families suffering from higher winter costs, the stress of unpaid bills, unemployment or poorly-paid jobs can take some time away from the stress and simply celebrate the miracle of Christmas without worrying about going without.
Gifts of Hope
Every Operation Christmas Love box is packed with locally-sourced food and cooking supplies as well as special gifts for the family and children to help celebrate Christmas. In some cases, the gifts delivered through Operation Christmas Love may be the only gifts a child receives as families struggle to afford life's necessities.
Receiving an Operation Christmas Love box can mean the difference between celebrating over the Christmas season or falling deeper into despair as parents anguish over the lack of resources to buy food or treats their kids see others enjoy at Christmas.
