How we work
We work in communities where poverty is entrenched, economic opportunities are few, and social issues such as alcoholism and domestic abuse are widespread. Our response addresses the complex nature of poverty for families, and the need for emotional and spiritual support, as well as material help.
Our local staff and partner churches work together to build community, share God’s love, and bring hope and transformation in the long-term.
We believe that strong relationships are the key to meaningful growth and change.
We support families and children
Through our sponsorship programs, we provide practical, emotional and spiritual support to people struggling with poverty, over a number of years. We help them grow in confidence and fulfil their potential, develop the tools they need to cope well with challenges, and grow into a place of financial and emotional stability.
We support the elderly and homeless
A lack of safety nets in Eastern Europe mean that a relationship breakdown or job loss can lead to homelessness. Low pensions and high rates of emigration leave many elderly people living alone in miserable conditions. The loneliness is brutal. With Soup Kitchens, street mercy projects and home visits, we fight hunger and isolation.
We have local staff
Helping people change requires a local perspective, an understanding of the culture and community, and the ability to grasp the complex and nuanced situations that people are facing.
That is why all of our work in Eastern Europe is done by employees who live locally. Our staff and volunteers build the trust and friendship over time that is needed to bring about long-lasting change. Our church partnerships lead to people being invited into their local Christian community.
Relationship
Central to all we do at Mission Without Borders is good relationships. We believe that the deepest transformation comes when our relationships with God and with each other are fully restored and we become part of a life-giving, loving community.
We provide support to all people regardless of faith, ethnicity and gender.
