Minimizing the impact of war on education in Ukraine through ongoing family support
As the war destroys children’s chances of a normal education, your support gives strength and hope22nd November 2024

The boy who has never been taught in a classroom
Seven-year-old Danyyil Kamoza has never been taught in a classroom; his first year of school has been at home, online. His family are from Sumy region in the north-east of Ukraine, 10km from the Russian border.
Danyyil’s mother, Vira, 44, said, “Since the beginning of the war, we’ve been in danger of our lives.
“The children became afraid of any loud sound; they would wake up at night crying, and couldn’t be calmed down.”
The Kamozas fled to Rivne region in western Ukraine in the summer of 2022. While western Ukraine is relatively safer, like many parents, Vira and her husband still worry about their children’s future.
The devasting impact of war
The impact of the war on education has been devastating. More than 7.5 million children and 1.5 million young people have had their schooling affected.
Vira said, “I want my children to be educated and to have the chance of a normal life in the future.
“Here they have to study online using mobile phones. It’s difficult for children to concentrate because there’s no contact with the teacher.”

The Kamozas began receiving support from Mission Without Borders – and our coordinator Pavlo is encouraging parents and children to keep persevering with their education, despite the difficult circumstances.
The Mission’s consistent emotional, spiritual and material support is helping to lift some of the burdens off the Kamoza family, giving them the strength to keep going.
Support towards a brighter future
Danyyil said, “My favourite subject is called ‘I discover the environment’. I like it because I can see all the things I’m learning about when I go outside. I learn about nature, the weather, people, and animals.”
Vira said, “We want our children not to lose interest in their education and to stay engaged. We hope that peace will come to Ukraine so that our children will be able to go to school regularly.”
As the conflict in Ukraine destroys children’s experience of a normal education, at Mission Without Borders thanks to your support we’re doing everything we can to help them towards a brighter future.
